About these terms

These terms apply when you use waleedtariq.academy. They also apply to the membership you buy here.

Waleed Tariq runs this site under the name Waleed Tariq Academy. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Waleed Tariq. "You" means the person using the site.

How buying works

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.

  • Paddle sells the membership to you and takes your payments.
  • Paddle charges any VAT or sales tax. It also sends your receipts and any invoice.
  • When you buy, you also agree to Paddle's buyer terms. They cover the sale and the payments.
  • These terms cover your access to the membership and how you may use it. Paddle's buyer terms call this our supplier agreement.
  • UK prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT. In other countries, Paddle may show a local price. It adds or includes local tax at checkout.
  • Your access starts once Paddle confirms your payment. We then email you a link to sign in.

The membership

The membership costs £19 a month or £190 a year. While it is active, you get:

  • every course in the library
  • each new lesson and course as it comes out
  • the NEC4 and FIDIC Toolkit to download
  • a certificate for each course you finish
  • the chance to request topics and vote on them

There is no free trial. Module 1 of every course is free to try instead, with no account needed.

Renewing and cancelling

  • A monthly membership renews each month. A yearly membership renews each year. Paddle takes the payment on your renewal date.
  • You pay the price you joined at. If we raise it, we will email you at least 30 days before your next payment at the new price. You can cancel before then.
  • You can cancel online at any time. Go to My library and choose Manage subscription.
  • When you cancel, your access runs to the end of the month or year you have paid for. We do not take any further payments.
  • Paddle sends the renewal reminders that the law requires where you live.
  • If a payment fails, Paddle tries again for a short time. You keep your access while it does. If the payment still fails, the membership ends.
  • If you join again later, the price on the site at that time applies.

Our Refund policy explains when you can get money back.

Your account

  • You sign in with a link that we email to you. There is no password. Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you, so keep your email account secure.
  • Each account is for one person. Do not share your sign-in.
  • The name you give for your certificates appears on them. Use your own name.
  • You can ask us to close your account at any time. Cancel your membership first, or we will cancel it for you when we close the account.

Offers

  • The launch code HUBLAUNCH takes 20% off the first year of a yearly membership for one person. It does not apply to monthly plans or team seats. Renewals are at the full price.
  • You can use one code on each order.
  • We may end an offer at any time.

Team seats

  • Team seats cost £180 a seat a year, which is £15 a seat a month. The minimum is 5 seats. For 50 seats or more, ask us for a quote.
  • The person who buys the seats is the team manager. The manager adds and removes people by email in My library.
  • Each seat is for one person. People must not share a seat. When someone leaves, the manager can give their seat to someone new.
  • The manager only gets access to the courses by giving a seat to themselves.
  • Only add people who have agreed to join. We email each person a link to sign in.
  • Team seats renew each year. The manager can cancel online at any time. To add seats, write to us.

The Toolkit

  • The Toolkit has six Excel workbooks and three packs of Word notice letters. Every member can download it.
  • The NEC4 Application for Payment is an Excel workbook with macros. It is built for Excel on Windows, with macros turned on.
  • Files you downloaded stay yours to use under these terms after your membership ends.

Topic requests

  • Members can send us topics they would like us to teach. We read each one before it appears on the site.
  • We show approved requests on the site without your name. We may shorten them or correct the spelling.
  • We decide what to teach and when. The dates on the Coming next page are our plans. They may move.

How you may use the content

  • We own the content on this site, including the courses and the files.
  • You may use the courses for your own learning. You may use what you learn in your own work, including work for your employer or clients.
  • You may fill in the templates and use them on your projects. You may share the documents you make from them as part of that work.
  • NEC and FIDIC are trade marks of their owners. We use the names only to say which contracts the courses cover.

You must not:

  • share your sign-in or your access with anyone
  • sell or share the courses or the files as they are
  • publish course content, or use it in a course or product of your own
  • copy the site with automated tools, or try to get round our access controls

Not legal advice

  • Our courses and files are independent training material. NEC and FIDIC do not publish or endorse them.
  • They explain the contracts. They are not legal advice and do not replace reading your own contract.
  • For a decision on a live project or dispute, take advice on your own facts.

The content is based on:

  • NEC4, June 2017 edition with the January 2023 amendments
  • the FIDIC Red Book, Second Edition 2017
  • case law up to September 2026

Certificates

  • A certificate shows the course and the date you finished it. It also shows the study time.
  • Each certificate has a number. Anyone can check the number on our site.
  • Certificates you earned stay valid after your membership ends.
  • You can use a certificate for your CPD records. It is not a professional qualification. Your professional body decides how it counts.

Changes to the content and the site

  • We update the courses when the contracts or the case law change. We may also improve or reorder content.
  • We may retire a lesson that is out of date. We will not remove a whole course without replacing it.
  • We may change the site. It may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance.

If we close the membership

  • If we decide to close the membership, we will email you at least 90 days before it closes.
  • Memberships will not renew after we send that email. We will refund any part of a paid period that runs past the closing date.
  • In that time you can download your certificates and the Toolkit.

Suspending or ending access

  • If you seriously break these terms, we may suspend or end your access. Examples include sharing your sign-in or sharing paid files.
  • We will tell you why. If the problem can be put right, we will give you a chance to do so first.

Our responsibility to you

  • We are responsible for foreseeable loss you suffer because we broke these terms. The same applies if we failed to use reasonable care.
  • Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen. It is also foreseeable if we both knew it might happen when you joined.
  • We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable.
  • You are responsible for how you apply the content on your projects.

If you buy for a business:

  • our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim
  • we are not liable for loss of profit or loss of business

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it. This includes our liability for fraud. It also includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

Faulty content

  • If something in the membership is faulty or not as described, tell us. We will fix it. If we cannot, we will refund you.
  • UK consumers have legal rights if digital content is faulty. These terms do not affect those rights.

Changes to these terms

  • We may update these terms when the law changes. We may also update them when we change the membership.
  • If a change affects your membership, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies.
  • If you do not accept the change, you can cancel before it applies.

Other things

  • We may transfer these terms to another person or company, such as a company we own. We will tell you if we do. Your rights will not be reduced.
  • You may not transfer your account or your access to someone else.
  • If a court decides that part of these terms is invalid, the rest still applies.

Law and complaints

  • If you have a complaint, write to us first. We will try to sort it out quickly.
  • These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
  • If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live. You can also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
  • Paddle's buyer terms have their own rules on law and disputes for the sale.
